Plan Your Saturday in Gatlinburg

Planning a weekend in Gatlinburg should, by all means, include both food and fun! So we put together a handy itinerary for you to use as a guide for Saturday. We have activities segmented between the southern part of Gatlinburg and the northern part, from the US-321 split. One set may be more convenient depending on where you’re staying.

Southern Gatlinburg

Morning

Wake up and enjoy the smell of hot and homemade pancakes as you sit at the Pancake Pantry in The Village for breakfast. They’ve been serving up delicious meals since 1960 when they become the first pancake house to hit Tennessee. If you like to wake up a bit later, that’s fine by them—they serve up breakfast all day! They’re open to 4 p.m. in the months of June through October and until 3 p.m. the rest of the year. After you’re finished, walk some of your breakfast off by visiting some of the 27 shops and boutiques in The Village.

Afternoon

Get ready for some fun as you walk a few blocks down the street to Fannie Farkle’s. If you have the munchies from being between breakfast and lunch, enjoy some of their famous fresh-dipped corn dogs or a classic sausage sub. Is your mouth watering now? They also have Tennessee sweet tea and fresh lemonade to satisfy any thirst.

Grab a game card at the Fannie Farkle’s arcade. It’s fast and easy and eco-friendly. Best of all, you can redeem the points you earn for awesome prizes—everything from a PS4 to a bike! Plus, your points don’t expire, so you can come back again to load up on even more points on your next visit.

Evening

Grab dinner at No Way Jose’s Cantina for some authentic Mexican food using recipes discovered off the coast of Baja. They even have a gluten-free menu for those with dietary restrictions. If you’re in the mood for something less ethnic, try Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. for hearty seafood selections. They also have a gluten-free menu. Certain specialty drinks also come with a souvenir glass you can take home.

Northern Gatlinburg

Morning

Enjoy a hearty pancake breakfast at Flapjack’s Pancake Cabin. If you have a large family or are with a group, they have family-style seating in the center of the cabin.

Before you head to your car, check out the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum, which is right next door at Winery Square. You know you’ll want to say you’ve been here as it’s the only one of its kind in the world (besides its sister museum in Spain). They have over 20,000 sets of salt and pepper shakers that started as a fun hobby for Rolf, Andrea, and Alex. If you’re not sure you’d be interested in going, check out their Virtual Tour, hosted by Google. It might change your mind. The admission to view the displays can be used toward the purchase of a salt and pepper shaker set (kids 12 and under are free).

Afternoon

Travel farther up East Parkway and visit the Alamo for delicious oak-grilled steaks and fish. They have a superb lunch menu (Chef’s Selections) that is served with French fries or mashed potatoes and broccoli or green beans. Don’t forget to try the Alamo specialty—Alamo Potatoes. They are sliced potatoes that have been deep-fried with peppers and onions and topped with a secret seasoning.

Enjoy the wind whizzing past your face as you head down the thrilling Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster. You can take the uphill lift system to the top. You control the speed with your personalized braking system and can go single or double. A single or double rider weight limit is 375 lbs total. Parents can go with their children (ages 3–9 over 38” tall). Parking is free! If you’re up for it, you could always take our dare and go at night instead. They are open year-round no matter the weather. If the track is wet, the total weight limit is 330 lbs.

Evening

Geno’s Pizza is calling your name if you find yourself wanting a break in your room. You can stay right in your hotel or cabin, and they will deliver it for you. If you are staying up in Pigeon Forge or Kodak, they have locations there too. You’ll be pleased to know that Geno’s has been locally and family owned and operated since 1984. They offer subs, calzones, salads, wings, and pasta in addition to pizza.
