Like the merchandise and vendors, you never know what venues will enthrall and surprise you at The Great Smokies Flea Market. Over the years, the market has hosted an Exotic Animal Exhibition from playful monkeys to colorful singing jungle birds. There has been face-painting, tractor parades highlighting olden days, as well as futuristic monster machines, and a regional Cornhole Tournament. Families loved the old fashion horse drawn wagon ride. Market visitors have enjoyed captivating magic acts, singing hula hoop acts (yes, you read that right), folk music, gospel music, Octoberfest celebrations, and book signings from intriguing authors like Oliver North. And of course we have seasonal celebrations – Christmas Parties with all the trimmings as well as Halloween Costume Contests and “trick or treat” where kids feel like, well “a kid in a candy store!” So much fun and so special to so many people, the market even hosted a wedding!
COMMUNITY
The Great Smokies Flea Market’s owners and staff feel privileged to call our tiny piece of the world home. Folks here were born God-fearing & and raised neighborly. Early Sunday Church Services are offered through the Great Smokies Flea Market Ministries for the pleasure of vendors, staff, and visitors. The ministry also accepts clothing, food, household goods, and monetary gifts, which are distributed throughout the area to families in need. Much of the success of this ministry is due to its Pastor, Ms. Krista Atchley, & the generosity of the vendors. Throughout the years the market and its vendors have reached out to poverty stricken families and children in numerous ways – Halloween Decorations and goodies for parties, Angel Tree Christmas Gifts from the vendors delivered to children by the market’s own “Santa,” as well as having made donations to several local charities and participated in several charitable events – the Boys & Girls Club, Muscular Dystrophy, schools, hospitals and so many others. Organizations such as the Salvation Army, local Fire & Police Departments, churches, youth organizations such as the Boy & Girl Scouts are frequently found fund-raising at the market and find our visitors most generous. So, we welcome you with pride to our southern mountain community.
HISTORY
Family owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Atchley, and their children Chuck and Krista Atchley, since 1990, The Great Smokies Flea Market began as a small flea market nestled within the Kodak mountain foothills of Sevierville, TN. Over the years, it has blossomed into the giant flea market for which it is known for today.
Over 15 years ago, in 2004, the Great Smokies Flea Market was “made famous in some circles,” according to Sevier County’s local newspaper, The Mountain Press, when they were featured on Turner South’s program “Junkin” – the early leading authority on flea markets in the United States. The unbiased program promoted the market as one of the best flea markets in the country. The Great Smokies Flea Market continues to be one of the best places in America to enjoy a family outing.
OPEN FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY from 8 AM to 5 PM YEAR ROUND
Including some holidays except for Christmas.
