It all started with a fantastic hammock more than 75 years ago. Joshua John Ward, a riverboat captain, invented the most supportive and durable cotton-rope hammock ever in 1889. Which gained popularity over time.

When his family established the Original Hammock Shop in Pawleys Island along U.S. 17 in 1938. Because of this, it was only fitting to showcase this exquisite example of local workmanship.

The Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock is located in The Hammock Shops Village, where you can still see the weavers performing the magic you once witnessed as a child.
