Nestled in the densely wooded Tennessee hills, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville are two excellent destinations for future travelers who enjoy the outdoors. For those who have chosen to call the region home, the opportunities are endless for soaking in the healing power of the natural world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, with all of these options at your fingertips, it can quickly become overwhelming to try and decide on the best activity for you and your family! We recommend walking, running, or biking the greenways of Pigeon Forge and Sevierville – grab some water, pack a lunch, and hit the trail with your family for a day of fun, adventure, and lasting memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is a Greenway, anyway?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Similar to trails and walking paths, greenways<\/a> are linear open spaces, often highlighting and connecting natural resources and corridors by following their course and making it possible to enjoy several in one day easily. Greenways are typically enjoyed by pedestrians and cyclists, and provide a safe and accessible way for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to deepen their appreciation for the natural spaces in their hometowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are nearly 1,000 greenways and trails crossing Tennessee from border to border, due to the inspiration and tireless efforts of many people with a vision for a closer connection with nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who can enjoy a day on the Greenways?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Anyone! You can walk, jog, or ride a bike, to appreciate the exhilarating freedom of the Greenways in Pigeon Forge and Sevierville! Families with children who are still learning to ride can choose a shorter trail and make great memories on the greenway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also an excellent way for those working from home to take a break from hunching over a computer and get your blood pumping. You can enjoy a jog or bike ride by yourself – you don\u2019t need a crowd – and if you\u2019re experiencing stress or anxiety, fresh air is a well-known antidote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For older adults, biking is an accessible form of exercise that provides a cardio workout that is much easier on the joints than many of the other options. Depending upon your activity level, you and your spouse can relax and enjoy each other\u2019s company outside. You can plan a morning or evening ride to enjoy the cooler parts of the day, or you can set aside several hours throughout the day to fully explore one of the longer trails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pack water and snacks, and take off for a day of laughter and exploration. You can also pack a picnic lunch to enjoy along the way, or stop for takeout at one of the fantastic restaurants in Sevierville and Pigeon Forge. The greenways can be enjoyed rain or shine – just don\u2019t forget your sunscreen!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greenways in Pigeon Forge<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In Pigeon Forge, there are several greenway options currently available for you to get out and explore walking or on your bike! The Riverwalk Greenway<\/a> connects the Pigeon Forge Community Center and Patriot Park with over 4-miles of paved trail. True to its name, it offers views of the Little Pigeon River and offers convenient lighting along the way, making the greenway accessible throughout the early morning, the afternoon and into the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veterans Boulevard Greenway<\/a> is a 6-mile paved trail that connects Dollywood in Pigeon Forge to Sevierville! Winding through the towns and the beautiful scenery in between, a ride on the Veterans Boulevard Greenway is an excellent way to explore both Pigeon Forge and Sevierville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Plaza @ Butler and Ashley<\/a> is a fantastic central location around which to plan your trip on the Greenways or to stop and take a break during your ride. Offering benches, a water fountain, and views of the Little Pigeon River, you can spend a few minutes or an hour in this spot and come away with a smile on your face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greenways in Sevierville<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In Sevierville, the Greenway system is even more richly developed and spans several parks and city destinations. As previously mentioned, the Veterans Boulevard Greenway <\/strong>connects Sevierville to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, and clocking in at 6-miles one way, is a great day trip from one city to the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City Park Trail<\/a> winds through the immaculately-maintained Sevierville City Park, offering access to softball fields, little league baseball fields, tennis courts, and more. It also connects to the Memorial River Trail Greenway, adding 2 additional miles and continues along the Little Pigeon River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019d like to explore Sevierville, the Municipal Complex Greenway<\/a> is the best choice! Looping around the Community Center, the Police Station, and City Hall, this greenway only extends for 0.6 miles, but allows you to see a great deal of the city and connects you to other greenways that you can follow for a more extended trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middle Creek Greenway<\/a> <\/strong>includes the loop around the Municipal Complex and continues for approximately 2 miles, parallel to Middle Creek. It then merges with Veterans Boulevard Greenway, which, if followed for an additional 6 miles, will bring you to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Prong Greenway<\/a> is a beautiful 2-mile trail that offers views of the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River as it follows along beside the water\u2019s edge. For nature lovers, this greenway is an excellent choice because it affords views of the multitudes of waterfowl and other birds that call the riverside their home. This greenway culminates with a boardwalk over the Little Pigeon River on the Great Smoky Mountains Parkway Bridge, before continuing to Sevierville City Park.
