She had over 50 battle engagements with 2,300 young men fighting off enemy attacks and living together in a floating city at sea. Encounter the stories of those men and women who served on the ship through their oral histories, photographs, and mementos.

While on the Battleship, take a step back in time and let the sailors’ tales bring history to life. Envision the daily life and fierce combat that her crew faced in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Imagine taking control of the ship by directing it, igniting the engines, or even firing the guns.

The Battleship NORTH CAROLINA participated in every major naval offensive in the Pacific area and earned 15 battle stars During World War II. She was dedicated on April 29, 1962, as the State’s memorial to the World War II veterans and the 11,000 North Carolinians who died during the war.
